UK singer/songwriter/producer Ella Joy possesses a beautiful, rich and evocative voice and an extraordinarily sensitive and mature musical ability. Her songs, inspired by explorations into her sense of self, touch on the deeper aspects of being such an old soul in a young human form.
Her début EP Lucid Living, released by Cold Hill on September 1st 2016, represents the starting point of a creative journey for an exciting emerging artist, and is a testament to Ella Joy’s mesmerising, distinctive sound; a unique series of songs that are authentic and full of depth. Influenced by the likes of Kelela, FKA Twigs and London Grammar, Lucid Living presents a blend of soulful melodies with a fusion of glitches, vast soundscapes and enticing lyrics, painting stories and images in the mind of an attentive listener.
The concept behind the EP evolved out of an experiential understanding of contemporary spiritual and philosophical teachings. Lucid Living, named as a homage to and by kind permission of philosopher, teacher and friend Tim Freke, explores the experience of bringing lucidity to our waking state of being, so that we may live a life fully engaged with every moment of experience. The EP documents the process of self discovery, highlighting our raw and primordial root - our most intimate sense of self, our reality - and the truth that we are free, liberated human beings, graced with an opportunity to develop consciously in the world.
